February 28 – Sunday Update

I just uploaded today’s preach – which was more of a talk.  There are some important prophetic words at the end of the preach and the talk itself is a foundation for what we are going to be examining over the next few months.

The ladies evening that just finished apparently went great and lots of fun was had by everyone who attended.

I highly recommend a book I’ve recently read by Floyd McLung called “The Father Heart of God”. An excellent read and the topics covered will be similar to many things we’ll be looking at over the next couple of months.

I’ve been promising some website changes for a while and in March these changes will take effect.  No radical site re-design but some changes to the structure and how the website works.

This Wednesday we’ll be finishing Colossians and our Wednesday Night Bible Study.  A few new gathering times will start up in the next month or so, including a weekly businessperson’s gathering during the week and an evening pub gathering aimed at the young adult crowd.

Have a great week!

LifeHouse – February Update

The month of February seems to have flown by. It’s been filed with a lot of activity for us at LifeHouse Church – all of it good.

The month started out great with a visit from Ken Grenfell from Cheaspeake Church International in Virginia. We had the opportunity to host a two evening event at Streetsville Secondary School in Mississauga. We had friends come from all over, including Heights City Church in Pickering, New Life Church in Toronto, The Father’s House in Kitchener, and City Gates Church in Ajax and from some other local churches as well. The two days of ministry were powerful and the teaching excellent. We’re looking forward to having Ken back soon.

In February started preaching on Grace and Love, and that series will carry us into March.

On Valentines day we premiered the movie “Furious Love” in Mississauga. It is an incredibly powerful film and everyone who attended was extremely touched by it. We had people travel from as far as Markham, Oshawa, and New Market to attend the film. We plan to screen the film again soon.

On February 16 a few of us from LifeHouse also went to an event hosted by New Life Church at the El Mocambo club in Toronto on the 5 Love Languages, and our Mens Breakfast on February 13 was a great event with excellent conversation based around Ephesians 4 and 5.

The most exciting events to take place in February were the start of our Junior High and High School age youth nights. Our Junior high group meets Friday nights from 7:30pm to 9:30pm and our High School group meets Saturday nights from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. These are exciting steps in the growth of our church.

Still to come is our Ladies evening on Sunday February 28th.

With spring fast approaching we’re beginning to plan for the summer. Stay tuned to hear about the great events we’ve got planned coming up.

Sunday January 24 Update

The last two weeks at LifeHouse Church have been an outstanding time.  Our Understanding Grace series has continued with Part 3 on January 17 focusing on Grace, Repentance, and the Cross and Part 4 this past Sunday focusing on how focusing on Self produces Legalism, not Grace.

This past Sunday we welcomed Bill Koene from The Dwelling in Streetsville who had a display and gave a short presentation on The Dwelling, which is a wonderful ministry of 24/7 worship to God.  They have a meeting location above the Streetsville bookstore, as well as locations on The Chase (near Credit Valley Hospital) and in a home across from the University of Toronto in Mississauga (UTM).

Anyone who is willing to commit to 1 hour on a weekly basis for worship/prayer is invited to contact The Dwelling, or visit one of the gathering times already established.

We also had Suliman Mohamed visit with us.  Suliman has a great ministry to the Muslim and Hindu community as well as heading up the Mississauga Prayer Group which distributes the Jesus DVD and information door to door to homes in Mississauga and the surrounding cities.

This last week I had the opportunity to go with Youshiah Meghdies and the Gideons for two mornings to the University of Toronto in Mississauga (UTM) campus and help distribute bibles during Christian Unity Week on the campus.  Many bibles were distributed and there are a number of opportunities to speak with students who came up with questions about Jesus and Christianity.

As a church in Mississauga it’s a pleasure to walk with these men who are involved in these Christian ministries around the city of Mississauga.  We look forward to joining with others that God brings and the visions that God gives those already coming to LifeHouse Church.

From what I heard the Ladies Evening also went extremely well on Sunday night, with great desert, a great time of fellowship and ministry.  A reminder that these meetings will happen once a month on the 4th Sunday of the month.

We also recently have obtain permits to run a youth sports program for 1 hour after church (1-2pm) which will start shortly, and we have a permit to use the gym at Vista Heights Elementary School on Friday nights from 6pm to 10pm.  The high school aged youth have expressed an interest in starting up something on Saturday nights as well.

It’s wonderful to see the church growing and personally I look forward to seeing what the Lord does next.

Have a great week

2010 – The Beginning

This past Sunday started with me thinking that we would have very few people present at our first Sunday of 2010.  One family was celebrating their parent’s 50th wedding anniversary, another couple was away on their first wedding anniversary, and others were hit by a stomach flu virus.  Also after a time of holidays it’s always a question as to who will show up.

Running late and believing that my family and I would be setting up the entire Sunday service alone we were presently surprised by a number of things.  When we arrived the school custodial staff had already set up all the chairs for us.  Then another couple arrived unexpectedly early and were able to help with the set-up.

Despite having the majority of the people away who normally help set-up, we were able to get everything done pretty much on time.  But figuring that we would not have many people arrive we put away a row of chairs so that there would not be too many empty seats.

To our surprise, by the end of our worship time we had to add additional chairs.  Many people arrived that we didn’t expect, and even some new people who we’d never met before!

It was a wonderful reminder that this is God’s church, and that He’s the one in control.  If we will just be faithful to what He’s asked us to do, He will make sure the rest gets taken care of.

Being the beginning of a new year, and a new decade, I find myself reflecting on what this next 10 years will look like.  Personally, I want to trust God so that the surprises won’t be surprises anymore, but rather that I will have a childlike expectation and trust that of course God will do what He says he will do.  As a church I hope that we grow together in this revelation of God as our good Father who always provides for His children.

I realize that this will require us to continually trust God more and rely on ourselves less.  Lord, help us to listen, and help us to trust.

November 1 to 15 Update

LifeHouse Church’s move into Dolphin Senior Public School in the Streetsville area of Mississauga has been a great success.  While many of the people who attend are local to the Streetsville and Meadowvale areas of Mississauga, we’ve also had people visit from Oakville, Milton, and Georgetown.  Each week we are learning how to best utilize the great space we have in the gym.

We look forward to the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and understanding of God’s Grace, and the power of Holy Spirit being released every Sunday when we meet.

The audio from November 1st and 8th are up on our site under the Media tab.  Unfortunately the audio from November 15th was lost.  We’ll be posting a summary of the preach and some prophetic words that were spoken over the church shortly.

Thanks to everyone who’s been out to check out the church in the past few weeks.  We look forward to seeing you again soon.

If you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to sign-up for e-mail updates and to become a FAN of LifeHouse Church on facebook or follow us on twitter.
